Text to CSV

Values starting with = + - @ are prefixed with ' so spreadsheet apps show them as text. Plain numbers such as -12.5 are unchanged.

Up to 25 MiB, 100,000 rows, 250 columns and 2 million cells. Your text stays in this browser.

Create a CSV to preview the columns.

Choose the separator and header setting, then create the CSV. Advanced splitting supports fixed widths, multiple separators and patterns.

Turn pasted text into a downloadable CSV without uploading it. Choose commas, tabs, semicolons or pipes, preview the columns, then save a UTF-8 CSV. For a TXT file or a fixed-width report, open Advanced splitting.

How to create CSV from pasted text

Choose the separator and header setting, then create the CSV. Advanced splitting supports fixed widths, multiple separators and patterns.

Up to 25 MiB, 100,000 rows, 250 columns and 2 million cells. Your text stays in this browser.

Keep IDs intact when opening the result in Excel

CSV stores text without cell types. This tool keeps leading zeros and long IDs, but Excel may reinterpret them when opening a CSV. For a workbook with text cells, use CSV to Excel. Formula protection is on by default; it prefixes formula-like values with an apostrophe. Turn it off only if the next program needs those values verbatim.

Need test data instead of converting existing text?

Use the random CSV generator to choose row counts and fields, or download a ready-made sample CSV file. To tidy the result, choose Open in editor; only that action transfers your new table to the editor.

Example: a tab-separated list becomes CSV

This synthetic example keeps the ID unchanged and quotes the comma inside the item name.

CSV
id	item	quantity
00012345678901234567	Notebook, blue	2
CSV
id,item,quantity
00012345678901234567,"Notebook, blue",2
