Open one or more CSV files and edit them in a spreadsheet grid: change cells (including line breaks), add or delete rows and columns, sort and filter, undo and redo, then download. The download keeps the file’s delimiter, line endings, byte-order mark and encoding, and contains every row in the file’s own order. Files larger than 25 MB, 100,000 rows or 2 million cells open in large-file mode, which reads pages from disk instead of loading the whole file.

How to edit a CSV file

  1. Choose Open files (you can open several; each gets a tab), paste rows, or start with New.
  2. Click a cell and type, or press Enter or F2 to edit its current value. Shift+Enter adds a line break inside the cell; Esc cancels.
  3. Use Add row, Add column, the column menu (click a column name) and the side panels to sort, filter, change text or build a recipe.
  4. Select Download CSV (or press Ctrl/⌘+S). Undo and redo (Ctrl/⌘+Z, Ctrl/⌘+Shift+Z) work until you close the tab.

Editing tools in the CSV editor

Cells and rangesEdit in place or in the Cell panel, which shows the full value with line breaks. Drag or Shift+arrow to select a range; Ctrl/⌘+C copies it as tab-separated text, Ctrl/⌘+V pastes tab-separated text from a spreadsheet, Delete clears it, Fill down copies the first row of the selection downward.
Rows and columnsAdd and delete rows; insert, rename, move and delete columns; drag a column edge to resize it; switch between roomy and compact rows.
Find and go toFind in file shows only rows containing the text. Go to row jumps to any row number.
View: sort and filterSort by up to 8 columns (text, natural, number or date) and filter with conditions such as contains, is one of, number between or date before. A view changes what you see, not the file; Keep only these rows turns it into a change you can undo. Views can be saved in this browser and reused on files with the same columns.
TextReplace text or a regular expression (with $1 groups), trim, change case — in chosen columns, all rows or only the rows in the current view, matching case or whole cells. A preview counts the cells that will change before you apply.
RecipeChain steps — split a column, combine columns, remove duplicate rows, rename or delete columns — preview the result, apply it as one change, and export it as JSON to repeat on another file. Steps refer to columns by name and position and stop with a message if a column is missing.
FileShows rows, columns, delimiter, encoding, byte-order mark, line endings, final line break and size, and what the download will keep.

Editing large CSV files

When a file is over the in-memory limit, the editor builds an index of where each record starts and ends (16 bytes per record), then reads only the rows you are looking at. In this mode you can edit cells, add and delete rows, rename columns, find text, go to any row, sort and filter the whole file, and undo and redo.

Saving writes a complete new file: rows you did not change are copied byte for byte from the original, so their quoting and line endings stay exactly the same; changed and new rows use the file’s delimiter and line ending. Text tools and recipes are available for files within the in-memory limit; for larger files use Filter CSV, Clean CSV data or Change CSV delimiter and encoding, which stream the whole file.

Large-file editing supports UTF-8 and Windows-1252 files. Files in other encodings open read-only; UTF-16 files need converting to UTF-8 first. Sorting keeps the sort values of the matching rows in memory and is limited to 2 million matching rows.

What the download keeps

  • Every row, in the file’s order — sorting or filtering the view never removes rows from the download.
  • The delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab or pipe), line endings (CRLF, LF or CR), byte-order mark and whether the file ended with a line break.
  • UTF-8, UTF-16 and Windows-1252 files are saved in the same encoding. Browsers cannot write other legacy encodings such as Shift_JIS or GB18030; those files are saved as UTF-8.
  • Values exactly as typed: leading zeros, long IDs and formulas stay text. Quotes are added only where a value needs them.

Editor limits and privacy

In-memory editing: up to 25 MB, 100,000 rows, 2 million cells and 250 columns, with up to 100 undo steps. Large-file mode has no fixed row limit; it has been tested with a 200,000-row, 18.4 MB file (edit at row 175,000, whole-file sort and filter, full download). Very large files depend on the browser’s memory and disk.

Files are read and saved in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and edits disappear when you close the tab unless you download them.

Questions and answers

Does the editor change numbers or dates?

No. Every value is kept as the text in the file, so 00123 stays 00123 and 1.2300 stays 1.2300.

Can I download only the filtered rows?

Choose Keep only these rows, in this order in the View panel, then download. Or use Filter CSV, which writes only matching rows.

Are my changes saved automatically?

No. Changes live in this tab until you download them. The browser asks before you leave the page with unsaved changes.
